Split Airport to City Centre: Every Option Explained (2026)

Split Airport — The Basics

Split Airport (airport code: SPU) is located in Kaštela, about 25km northwest of Split city centre. It's a modern, manageable airport — not enormous, not confusing. Getting into the city is straightforward if you know your options.

Here are every option, with honest prices and which one makes sense for your situation.

Option 1: Airport Bus (Cheapest)

Pleso Prijevoz operates a direct bus service between Split Airport and the city bus station (Autobusni kolodvor) on the waterfront. The bus station is a 5-minute walk from the old town and the main ferry harbour.

Price: €5-7 per person each way

Journey time: 30-50 minutes depending on traffic

Frequency: Roughly every 30-60 minutes, timed to flight arrivals

Where to buy tickets: Online at plesoprijevoz.hr or on the bus

Best for: Solo travellers, budget travellers, anyone without heavy luggage

Watch out for: The bus doesn't run to every single flight — check the schedule matches your arrival time.

Option 2: Taxi (Most Convenient)

Taxis wait outside arrivals at Split Airport. Official airport taxis have a fixed rate to Split city centre.

Price: €25-35 for the car (not per person) to the city centre

Journey time: 20-30 minutes

Best for: Groups of 2-4 people (split the cost), families with luggage, late night arrivals

Important: Use the official taxi rank outside arrivals, not drivers who approach you inside the terminal. Agree on a price before you get in, or ensure the meter is running.

Ride-hailing: Bolt and Uber both operate in Split. Open the app when you land — prices are often €18-25, slightly cheaper than the taxi rank.

Option 3: Private Transfer (Most Comfortable)

Several companies offer pre-booked private transfers from the airport — a driver with your name on a sign waiting in arrivals, fixed price, door to door.

Price: €30-45 for a standard car, €50-70 for a minivan

Journey time: 20-30 minutes

Best for: Families, large groups, anyone arriving late at night or with lots of luggage

Book in advance: Pre-book online — companies include Split Airport Transfers, GetTransfer, and various local operators. Prices are fixed so no surprises.

Option 4: Rent a Car (Best for Exploring)

All major car rental companies (Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Europcar) have desks at Split Airport. If you're planning to explore the Dalmatian coast — drive to Makarska, take the ferry to Brač or Hvar — picking up a car at the airport saves time.

Price: €35-60/day for a small car in summer

Important: Book well in advance for July and August — cars sell out and prices triple if you book last minute.

Parking in Split: The old town has very limited parking and it's expensive (€3-5/hour). Most people park outside the old town and walk. If you're staying in Split city centre, consider whether you actually need a car for the Split days — rent it when you need it for day trips.

Option 5: Split to Other Destinations Direct from Airport

If you're heading directly to Makarska, Dubrovnik, or another destination without stopping in Split city centre, there are direct shuttle services and buses that stop at the airport. Check Croatia Airlines bus, Flixbus, and local shuttle operators.

What to Do First When You Arrive in Split

You've landed, you've got into the city — now what?

If you're arriving in the afternoon or evening: drop your bags and walk straight to the waterfront (Riva). Order a coffee or a cold Karlovačko beer, watch the boats, and decompress. The old town is five minutes away and it's magical at dusk.
