Half-Day Adventure Tours from Split: Rafting, Canyoning & More (2026)
Why the Cetina River Is the Best Adventure Base Near Split
Thirty minutes south of Split, the Cetina river cuts through one of the most dramatic canyons in Dalmatia — limestone walls rising hundreds of metres on both sides, cold clear water, and a landscape that looks nothing like the coast you've been spending your days on.
Split Adventure has been running half-day outdoor experiences from this canyon for years. Their trips are the reason the Cetina has become one of Croatia's best adventure destinations. Here's what each experience is actually like.
Rafting — The Classic Introduction (from €30)
The rafting route runs about 10km through the canyon, taking 2-3 hours on the water. You'll paddle through mild rapids (Grade 2-3), float through calm stretches where you can look straight up at the canyon walls, and stop at a waterfall for swimming.
No experience needed. The guides are IRF-certified (International Rafting Federation) and manage the group through the technical sections. Your job is to paddle when asked and enjoy the scenery.
Suitable from age 8. The wetsuit, helmet, and buoyancy aid are all provided. Departure is at 9 or 10 AM from Split, with transfer included.
Best for: First-timers, families, anyone who wants an active morning without committing to a full day.
Canyoning — A Different Kind of Water Adventure (from €45)
Where rafting keeps you on top of the water, canyoning takes you through it. The Cetina canyoning route involves walking through the river, swimming through subterranean tunnels carved by the water over millennia, jumping into natural pools, and navigating your way through the canyon on foot and in the water.
It's slower and more intimate than rafting — smaller groups, more technical, and a completely different relationship with the landscape. The canyon looks completely different from water level, squeezed between rock walls with the sky a thin strip above.
The route is about 2,300 metres through the canyon, with an altitude drop of 73 metres. River temperature is 14-17°C — cold enough to feel exhilarating. Minimum age is 8.
Extreme Canyoning — For Those Who Want More (€65)
The extreme version adds something the standard route doesn't have: Gubavica waterfall, the highest waterfall in Croatia at 53 metres. The extreme route includes a 53-metre abseil down the face of the waterfall — which, depending on your tolerance for heights, is either terrifying or extraordinary or both.
This isn't genuinely dangerous — the equipment is professional, the guides are experienced, and the abseil is technically straightforward. But it's physically and mentally more demanding than the standard route. Minimum age is 16.
If you've done canyoning before, or if you simply want the most dramatic version of the experience, this is it.
River Tubing — The Relaxed Version (from €30)
River tubing is the easiest and most social of the Cetina experiences. You float 3,000 metres downstream on an inflatable tube, moving at the speed of the current, stopping at pools, going through mild rapids, and occasionally bumping into other people's tubes.
It requires the least effort and produces some of the most memorable photos. Departures are at 15:30, making it a natural afternoon activity. Minimum age is 8. Season runs from May 1 to October 1.
Best for: Groups, couples who want to do something together, anyone who wants to be on the water without the physical effort of rafting or canyoning.
Paintball — Something Completely Different (from €30)
The paintball field is set in an abandoned stone village near Split — the kind of place that looks like it's been designed as a backdrop. The games run for about an hour with 100 paint balls included per person. Extra ammo is available for €6 per 100 balls.
Minimum age is 16, group size ranges from 8 to 100 people. It runs year-round, unlike the water activities.
The abandoned village setting makes it genuinely atmospheric — different from a commercial paintball facility in a way that's hard to describe until you're running through ruins trying not to get shot.
