Cetina River Rafting from Split: Everything You Need to Know (2026)
Why Cetina Rafting Is One of the Best Things to Do Near Split
The Cetina river runs through a dramatic limestone canyon before emptying into the sea at Omiš, a small town 30km south of Split. The canyon walls rise hundreds of metres on both sides, the water is clear and cold, and the route takes you through some of the most spectacular inland scenery in Dalmatia.
It's also completely accessible — no experience needed, suitable for ages 8 and up, and most tours pick up from Split. It makes for a half-day that feels nothing like the standard tourist circuit.
What the Experience Is Actually Like
Most tours start from a point about 10km inland from Omiš. You're given a wetsuit, helmet, and paddle, get a brief safety briefing, and then you're on the water.
The route is about 10km and takes 2-3 hours. There are sections of gentle floating where you can look up at the canyon walls, sections of mild rapids that require actual paddling, and a waterfall stop where you can jump into a pool below.
The guides are experienced locals who know the river and the canyon well. They navigate the technical sections and manage the group — your job is mostly to paddle when asked and enjoy the scenery.
It's not extreme — there are no Class V rapids and you won't be in genuine danger. But it's genuinely physical and genuinely exciting in parts. Most people finish it wanting to do it again.

Combine It With Omiš
Omiš is worth an hour or two after the rafting. The town is built into a cliff where the Cetina river meets the sea — dramatically beautiful. Walk up to the Mirabella fortress above the town for views over the canyon and the coast. The old town has a few excellent seafood restaurants for lunch or dinner.
The combination of morning rafting and afternoon in Omiš makes for one of the best day trips from Split.
